fearDon’t worry, I’m not going to post a long list of New Year’s resolutions you should make this year with your social media and content marketing (’cause there’s plenty of those out there, aren’t there?).

What I am going to do is share a quick observation. Interpret it as you may. 🙂

I was outside, soaking in the sunlight late this morning and as I stood on the deck, a tiny bird landing on the railing by the bird feeder — unaware that he would have company on this chilly January morning, I’m sure. But instead of flying away, he stood there, looking my way. Scoping me out, I suppose. Wondering whether he should continue with his plan to snatch a few seeds from the feeder. I stood still, just watching him. I’m sure he was nervous. He hopped back and forth on the railing, went behind the feeder, looking this way and that. Assessing the threat. After a few minutes, he stuck his beak into the feeder and took what he needed.

Even though it was clear the bird was apprehensive about hanging around too long on that railing, what he needed to do was more important than the risk he was taking. And isn’t that true with our lives, too? In business and in our personal lives?

Being cautious is one thing. Not taking the seed from the feeder, when we KNOW it’s what we have to do, that’s something else entirely.

So, as you launch into this new year of marketing your business, don’t let fear of something unknown keep you from what you know you need to do.

There are always going to be risks. Unknowns. Set your goals and don’t let anything stop you from reaching them.
