According to Socialbakers, a site dedicated to monitoring Facebooks statistics, Facebook’s popularity in countries outside the U.S. appear to be the cause for the giant increase that’s occurred over the past few months. 80 million new sign ups were reported in the first few months of the year, with Brazil leading the way with more than 1.9 million new users on Facebook. That’s a huge jump for a country that had fully embraced Google’s social network Orkut (which never really caught on anywhere else).
